Fjallraven Nuuk Parka Men's Winter Jacket
Fjällräven Nuuk Parka
Why It Lasts
The Nuuk uses Fjällräven's proprietary synthetic Supreme Microloft insulation rather than down — it retains warmth when wet, which down cannot do. The outer shell is a high-denier polyamide with Hydratic membrane for waterproofing. The hood is designed to accommodate a helmet and has a wire brim for shaping in wind. The construction includes articulated elbows and knees for mobility in cold-weather activity. Two-way YKK zippers throughout. Fjällräven designs their parkas for Scandinavian and Arctic conditions where gear failure isn't an inconvenience — it's dangerous.
Known Weaknesses
Synthetic insulation is bulkier and heavier than equivalent-warmth down, making this parka substantial. Only useful in genuinely cold climates (sub-zero) — it's overkill for anything above about 15°F. The price ($600-900) is steep for a synthetic-insulated jacket when down alternatives weigh less. The Hydratic membrane is Fjällräven's own and doesn't have the brand recognition or independent testing track record of Gore-Tex. Limited color options. The extreme warmth rating means you'll overheat in anything resembling moderate winter weather.
