Solid Sitka spruce tops and solid rosewood or mahogany backs/sides — no laminates on the higher-end models. Dovetail neck joints (traditional models) or mortise-and-tenon joints create a mechanical connection that transmits vibration better and holds tighter than bolt-on designs. Martin guitars from the 1930s-1960s are still played professionally today and have appreciated in value. The forward-shifted X-bracing pattern distributes string tension across the top without excessive reinforcement.
