Orient Men's '2nd Gen. Bambino Ver. 2' Japanese Automatic Stainless Steel and Leather Dress Watch
Orient Bambino Watch
Why It Lasts
Orient manufactures their own in-house automatic movements (the caliber F6722 in the Bambino) — one of the few brands at this price point that doesn't use third-party movements. The in-house movement means Orient controls quality at every level and parts are always available for servicing. Mineral crystal, 30m water resistance, and a 316L stainless steel case. The automatic movement is self-winding from wrist motion and has a 40+ hour power reserve. Orient is owned by Seiko Epson, giving them access to serious horological manufacturing resources.
Known Weaknesses
Mineral crystal scratches much more easily than the sapphire crystal found on more expensive watches — a desk diver will accumulate scratches within the first year. Only 30m water resistance, which means it shouldn't be worn swimming or in the shower (despite the rating technically allowing splashes). The thin leather strap is the first thing that wears out — expect to replace it within 1-2 years. No hacking (second hand doesn't stop) and no hand-winding on older Bambino versions, making precise time-setting frustrating. The domed crystal catches light and can look distorted at angles.
