How We Make Money

The Last Buy is a free resource. We earn revenue through affiliate commissions when you purchase products through links on our site. Specifically:

  • We are a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com.
  • When you click a product link on The Last Buy and make a purchase on Amazon, we may earn a small commission.

What This Means for You

Your price does not change. Whether you click our link or go directly to Amazon, you pay the same price. The commission comes from Amazon's marketing budget, not from your pocket.

What This Means for Our Scores

Nothing. Our Durability Index scores are calculated using our methodology before any affiliate links are added. The scoring system is completely independent of our revenue model.

Here is what we guarantee:

  • Scores are never influenced by affiliate potential. A product with a high commission rate does not get a higher score.
  • We link to products we've scored, not products that pay well. If a product scores poorly, we say so -- even if it would earn us more money to promote it.
  • Our methodology is public. You can read exactly how we calculate every score on our Methodology page.
  • We include products without affiliate links. If a product deserves to be on our site but doesn't have an affiliate program, we include it anyway.

Why Affiliate Revenue

We chose affiliate commissions because it aligns our incentives with yours:

  • We only earn when you find our recommendations useful enough to buy
  • We have no incentive to drive page views with clickbait -- our revenue comes from trust
  • We don't need to run intrusive ads, gate content behind paywalls, or sell your data

This model lets us stay independent, keep our content free, and focus on what matters: helping you find products that last.
